Description
Triphala Chooranam comes in herbal powder form.
It is very useful in treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome associated with constipation.
Haritaki is very good at easing bowel movements. Vibhitaki helps to improve digestion strength and Amla balances Pitta.
The word Triphala is made from two words: tri + Phala – which means three fruits. It is named so because the herbal mixture is made of three dried fruits native to India namely-Indian gooseberry (Emblica Officinalis), black myrobalan (Terminalia chebula), and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula).

Dosage, Side effects, and Storage:
- 1 – 3 gms with lukewarm water, honey, or ghee after food twice a day or as directed by the physician. For constipation, it is preferable at bedtime. Can also be used externally for washing.
- Store in a cool and dry place.
Indications
- Indicated in Malachikkal (constipation), Irumal (cough/ bronchitis), Vaippun(stomatitis), and Neerum peelaiyum vadiyum kannoi (conjunctivitis), (Madras eye.).
- It is given in coughs with honey, in constipation with hot water, and in
conjunctivitis; its decoction is used to wash the eyes periodically. - A decoction of this chooranam is used to wash and clean wounds and ulcers.
- Further, this can be used for gargling purposes also. It allays the severity of diabetes mellitus
(Sarkarai noi/ Madhu megam). - Used as a general tonic, especially for eyes with equal quantities of honey or ghee.
